Achala Fort is a westernmost fort in the Satmala hill range. It is located 55km from Nashik, in Nashik district, of Maharashtra. This fort is adjoining the Ahivant Fort. The three forts Achala, Ahivant, and Mohandar are very close by. The Achala and Mohandar forts were constructed to guard the Ahivant fort. Captain Briggs has described it as a large hill, whose ascent is very easy till it reaches the top where it is very steep.

Achala Fort 4040 ft high is a Giridurg type fort which is a middle class fort for trek from the Satlal mountain ranges of Nashik district .The Achal fort comes in Ajanta Satlal section. Hence, this fort can be reached via Nashik or Manmad. It is also possible from Gujarat through Saputara.

 

History

In 1636 this fort was under the control of Adilshah. The Moghul Emperor Shahjahan send one of his General Shaista Khan and entrusted to win all the forts in Nashik region. Alivardikhan was cavalier of Shaista Khan who won the Fort. In 1670 king Shivaji won the fort from Moghuls. The Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb sent his chieftain Mahabat Khan to win the fort. Mahabat Khan and DilerKhan opened battle front from either side of the fort. The attack was so fierce that the Ahivant fort was surrendered to Moghuls.Subsequently, the Achala fort was also surrendered. In 1818 the fort was surrendered to Colonel Briggs along with other 17 forts after the fall of Trymbak fort.

 

GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

1. By Nashik: Get access to Vani via Nashik. ST went to Pimpri-Achla. This distance is about 12 kms. Is of Go to Achala village and go straight to Pimpripeada village. This distance is half an hour. Pimpri Pada is the village at the bottom of the fort. From the village there is a small temple at the crossroads. Get up on his side. If the fort on the left side is right from the temple, the trunk running on the right leads directly to Ahinwat. On the left side, catch the part of the fort from the block of the fort. Next, you can keep the path on the left and move it to the left. Later steps are taken in the kettles. It takes one and a half hour to reach the top of the trough.

2. Belawadi: The second route comes from Belawadi village. Belawadi is a town situated at the foothills of the Ahinm Fort. This route comes with Watella dehal, which comes from Achla village on the other side.



ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

Places to visit on the Achala Fort


  • ·       The gutter is very narrow.

  • ·       There is no such remnant on the fort.

  • ·       There are two water cisterns on the fort.

  • ·       Besides, there is a small temple situated in ruins. It takes about 20 minutes to rotate the fort.

OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

Accommodation is not available on the fort. There is also the facility for meals, as well as the water in the fort till February, February, it takes two and a half hours to reach the fort via Pimpri-Achla.
