Ahivant Fort / अहिवंत किल्ला is a fort
located 55km from Nashik,in Nashik district, of Maharashtra. This fort is an important fort in Nashik district. The three forts Achala, Ahivant, and Mohandar are very close by. The other two forts were constructed to guard the Ahivant fort. Captain Briggs has described it as a large and shapeless hill, remarkably bleak and unhealthy.


Aihwant fort Ahiwant fort - 4000 feet of Giridurg fort is situated in the Satlal mountain range of Nashik district and there is a middle class fort for trekkers.Ajintha fort is situated in Ajanta Satlal section. Hence, this fort can be reached via Nashik or via Manmad. It is also possible from Gujarat through Saputara.

 

History


In 1636 this fort was under the control of Adilshah. The Moghul Emperor Shahjahan send one of his General Shaista Khan and entrusted to win all the forts in Nashik region. Alivardikhan was cavalier of Shaista Khan who won the Fort. In 1670 king Shivaji won the fort from Moghuls. The Moghul Emperor Aurangzeb sent his chieftain Mahabat Khan to win the fort. Mahabat Khan and DilerKhan opened battle front from either side of the fort. The attack was so fierce that the fort was surrendered to Moghuls. In 1818 the fort was captured by British Colonel Prother.



 

GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

1. By Nashik, Get access to Vani via Nashik. From Vanni there was the fort from Nanduri road. 1km from Wandi nanduri road At the distance, a high end goes up to the mountains on the left. It's about an hour to reach from the tar road. After climbing to the mountains, we reach a window. If the route beyond the passage goes to Daregate, then the path in front of the forest will be taken directly to the steps of the fort. It takes one hour to go to the fort from the fort.

2. Pimpri Achala Marg, The second route is a long distance. Arrive from Wani to Pimpri-Padi via Pimpri-Chinchal. From Pimpriwadi, go to the temple on the hilltop. The path to the left from here goes to the fort and the right to the right leads to Belawadi. It takes half an hour to reach Belawadi from here. It is a great way to go from Belwadi to the fort. This route takes 2 hours to reach the fort.



It takes two and a half hours to get to the fort via Deraigaon and it takes 2 hours for Belgaum.


ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

Places to visit on the Ahivant fort


  • ·       There is a cave on the northeast side of the fort, But it is inappropriate to live.
  • cave in the cliff on the south side, It is right to live, Drinking water tank is 10 minutes away from the cave.
  • ·       When we reach the fort on the side of Daregaon, we see the ruins of two low-lying gates.
  • ·       Ruins of many big dams are lying around. From this, the fort seems to be a big military base.
  • ·       On this side, many caves are carved on the fort after coming to the fort. Around two to three water tanks are available for touring the fort.
  • ·       Goddess has a big idol on a large pool. This idol looks like a parallel to the statue of Saptashurungi.

OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
