Birwadi Fort - This fort of 1200 feet height is in Giridurg
fort. This fort of Roha Dongarange in Raigad district is considered to be easy
in trekkers.
There are many smaller forts like Ghosalgad, Talgad, Mangad
Kurdugad, Birwadi, in the mountain ranges beginning from Dahigigadad of Rohai.
Birbhadi Fort, which is not far from anywhere in history, is 18 km away from
Rohiya. It's at the distance. It is easy to see the fort within 1 to 2 hours.
History
In 1648, this fort was built
by Shivaji Maharaj, along with Lingana fort, after capturing Kalyan. This fort
was used to keep watch on the Revdanda creek and to check the activities of
Siddhi.
GETTING THERE

ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available all over from Pune and
Mumbai Mainly
There is only one way to get fort. It goes through the
village of Birawadi. There is a village called Chanra on Roha Murud road. 18
kms from Rohiya Up to 5 kms from Murud 5km above Chanera village There is a
Chanera village on top. 5 km from Birbhadi village from Chanera village Is up
Birwadi is a village situated at the bottom. There is a trek to the fort from
the village. It takes half an hour to reach the fort from Birwadi village.
ENTRY FEES
There
is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.
Places to visit on the Birwadi Fort
- · On reaching the fort from the village, there is a magnificent temple of Bhavani Mata on the way.
- · There are about 100 constructed steps to go to the temple.
- · There is a 6-statue of Lord Shiva standing on the side of the temple.
- · There is a water cistern digging in the rock at one place. He called it 'a horse cage.'
- · After going we enter the fort directly. There are many residences of fallen castle on the fort.
- · There are many water tanks on the fort.
OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS
The
fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show
their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It
comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site.
This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

There is
no lodging facility on the fort, but there is a provision of 20 people living
in Birwadi village.
