Mahipatgad is a hill fort situated on the east of the Khed . It is one of the largest fort in Maharashtra, with an area of 120acres. This fort is located 19 km from the Khed city. The Mahipatgad. Suamargad and Rasalgad are situated on a same spur 8 km long,which runs parallel to the western ghats.The Mahipatgad is on the northernmost end of the spur.



This fort of 3090 feet high is in Giridurg fort. This fort in Mahabaleshwar Koyna hill rangar in Ratnagiri district is considered to be of medium to trekers.
Rasalgad-Sumargad and Mahipatagad are standing on the 12 miles east of Khed taluka. In the north, Mahipatagad is also the largest and tallest in the North. The area of the fort is 120 acres. Because these three forts are close to each other, many trekkers also trek to Mahipatgad-Sumargad-Rasalgad.



History


This fort was built by Adilshah of Bijapur in 15th century. This fort was captured by King Shivaji in 1661. later on it passed to Peshwas and finally to the British in 1818. There are 10 houses in the Beldarvadi village, which is at the foot hill of the fort. The villagers are said to be brought by Shivaji as bricklayers for construction of the fort.




 GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available to Wadijetpur all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

1.To catch a bus near Dahiwali village from the village to the next morning. There is a gap of 1 hour from Khed to Dahiwali. From Dahivali, there is a well connected route to the fort. It is a long distance and it takes 4 hours to reach the top. When you walk along this route, you have to cross the two passes.

2.Get a train from Khed to Wadijetpur. Wadi should come to Jatapura and come to the Wadi Balsar village on the way down the road. The distance from Wadijyattapur to Wadibeldar is two to five hours. It takes 1 hour to reach Vadimeldar to reach the top. There is no likelihood of a missed because of a good mix of sticks.

3. From Rasalgad, there can also be Mahipatgad via Sumargd Marg. This difference is usually 7 hours. It is very possible to miss the destination because of the jungle walk.




ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

Places to visit on the Mahipatagad Fort


  • ·       There are six doors in the fort.

o   The door to Laldevdi Darwaja near the north,
o   Pusati Darwaja on the east,
o   Khed Darwaja to the south,
o   Shivganga Darwaja to the west,
o   Kotwala Darwaja,
o   Agnayes Yashwant Darwaza to the north,


  • ·       Near the Shivganga Darwaja there is a body of Shiva.
  • ·       There is a ladder near the Pusati door.
  • ·       Near Kotwal door, there is a small temple of Maruti.
  • ·       A large temple of Pareshwar is on the fort, It has the facility of lodging in these temples.
  • ·       In front of the temple, drinking water is good.
  • ·       In addition to this, the plateau is a forest. Many types of residues are hidden in this tree. It is very important for all to study.
  • There is an unusual type on this fort. It means that the remains of the unused choice are found lying here. Two to three hours are spent in the fort.



OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

There is a facility of 20 to 30 people living in the Pareshwar temple. We must arrange for our own convenience. Water supply is also available in Baramati. It takes 4 hours from the village of Dahiwali to reach the fort.
