Shrivardhan Fort and Manoranjan Fort is one of the two hill forts that constitute the
Rajmachi fortification, the other being Manaranjan Fort. It
is located in Rajmachi village which 8.5 km
from Lonavala in the Sahyadris mountain range. At 900 m(3000 feet) above sea level it was the
taller of the two peaks and was named after Shrivardhan Ganpatrao Patwardhan.
Other than a rampart there is no visible construction. It was probably used at
a watchtower for the Sahyadri region. There are two water tanks at the top of
the hill but one of them has an iron pillar in it.
GETTING THERE
To reach Lonavla
lying on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, one can travel by
train or bus, from nearby towns like Khopoli, Karjat, Talegaon Dabhade, etc.
While with major towns like Mumbai (82 km) and Pune (65 km) also, Lonavala is
well-connected.Shrivardhan Fort is just 13.5 km away from
the town
ENTRY FEES
There
is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.
THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND
It
is the best place to visit for some adventure during holidays.
OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS
The
fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show
their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It
comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site.
This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The
fort can be visited throughout the year but during monsoon the roads get
slippery and have to take a walk of 32 kms as no vehicle can get there in
monsoon.
