This fort is situated on the coast of the sea coast.This fort of Konkan is very easy in trekkers of Thane district.

Shirgaon fort is about 5 km north of Mahim in Palghar taluka. It's at the distance. The coastline of Shirgaon is very beautiful, because the coast is neglected and the sea is also deserted.



History

 

In 1739, Marathas won this fort with the fort of Dahanu, Kelve and Tarapur. Portuguese had possession of this fort before Maratha. Later in 1818, like the other forts, the fort went under the control of the British.

 

GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available  Mumbai.
The last station on Western Railway is Virar. To proceed with Virar, catch mail or shuttle and get to Palghar. Upon reaching Palghar, the bus running on the Satpati route is half an hour or so. We have to take the bus and get down at the 'Masjid Stops'. This distance is 15 minutes by bus. Besides, there are auto rickshaws coming to Palghar from this stop. After 10 minutes running from the mosque stop, we come to the fort. There is a school adjacent to the fort.



ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

  • ·       The fort has four towers in the four corners
  • ·       The entrance a bastion
  • ·       There is a very nice building wall.
  • ·       There is another door in the western wall of the fort.
  • ·       From the fortification of the fort, there is a beautiful view of the beach on the west.



OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
