Chandragad fort is located to the East of Dhavale village and is spread in South-North direction. The path through fields and reaches Shelarwadi hamlet. There is scree while approaching the fort and an unpaved path to guide .
A square shaped ditch with a Shiv ling and a Nandi idol in it. This place is regularly worshipped during the festival of Mahashivraatri. Moving ahead there is water tank which does not have potable water. There is a platform above this water tank which has another Shiv ling. When we see below across the left fortified wall there are five water tanks and the access to them is very difficult. Some of the tanks are dried while some have water in them. Mangalgad fort can be seen from the top.

 

History


The fort was built by Chandrarao More of Javli and later on won by Shivaji Maharaj from him. One can start a trek here to the Arthur Seat point in Mahabaleshwar. Umrath town is the beginning of Tanaji Malusare and Shelar mama who were Sardars of Shivaji Maharaj.



GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses available to Poladpur,
from Poladpur there are local transport or buses available to Dhawale.

 

ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
