Patta Fort, or Patta Killa, also known as Vishramgad, is a fort situated between Nasik and Ahmadnagar in Maharashtra. Shivaji Maharaj once visited and rested there. The residents of Patta Killa are known as Pattekar, meaning "residents of Fort Patta". The height of Patta Fort from sea level is approximately 1,392 Meters (4,566 feet).


The north-south quadrangle of Sahyadri goes east to Igatpuri Thalghat, which is called Kalsubai Range. On the west side of this line, Alang, Madan, Kalsubai and east are for Aund, Patta, Bitangad and some forts. Dangat forest in Alang, Madan, Kulang, due to the inauspiciousness of the fort, it is very difficult to trace the forts, but the tremor in the neighborhood of Aundh, Patta, is very easy. The name of the fort is also known as 'Uttargad'.


History


This fort was in the Bahmani Sultanate. In 1490 when the Bahamani Empire was torn into pieces, this fort was captured by Nizam of Ahmednagar. In 1627 this fort was won by Moghuls. In 1671 Moropant Pingale captured this fort but, it was again recaptured by Moghuls in 1672. In 1675 this fort was captured again by Moropant Pingale. Patta used to be at the border of the Swarajya. Shivaji Maharaj arrived at this fort in November 1679 after winning Jalnapur, the Mughal army trapped him from three sides. It was because of the skill of Bahirji Naik (head of the detective department) that Maharaj, was able to reach Patta safely. On 11 January 1688, this fort was captured by Moghul army headed by Matabarkhan. He appointed Govindsingh of Bhagur as the chief of the fort. Later this fort was captured by Peshwas in 1761. Finally in 1818 this fort was won by the British


From here the Alang, Madan, Kulang, Kalsubai, Trimbakgad fill all areas, and these forts are used to keep a watch on this area. Shivrajaya conquered this fort and named it 'Uttragad'. Shivanji Maharaj spent some time in this fort. Further Till 1686 all this area was under Maratha control. In 1682, Aurangzeb made his debut in Maharashtra and started taking control of the Marathi land. In 1688, Matabarkhan started many fortifications in Baglan. Matbarkhan related to Pattagadha sent an application to Aurangzeb, who said that the servant has taken the squad of 1,000 Koli, Bhill and Mawale for a few days. Monopoly holders and other fort landlords have been provided funds.On 11th January 1688, Khan organized a few squads to take the fort. At midnight, we won the fort by tie the fort on the fort. Bhagwant Thanedar Govind Singh was appointed to the fort. During the period from 1688 to 89, the Marathas of Aundh, Trimbakgad, Kavni, Tringalwadi, Madanagad and Moradant forts captured Fituri, but they should win the defeat of Pattgad.

GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available to Ghauti, Nashik all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

Igatpuri-Ghauti-way-Taked It takes 1 hour to reach Tocade. Jeep service is available from Takde to Kokanwadi Wadi. Takade to Kokanwadi is a quarter of a quarter hour. Kokanwadi to Pattawadi is half an hour.

Pattavadi is situated at the foothills of Pattabadi. Pattavadi village is basically sitting on the plateau. Waiting for the fort from the village is just a fort. It takes half an hour to reach the fort from the village.



ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

Places to visit on the Pattagad fort


  • ·       There are water tanks.
  • ·       The fort walls and roof are still left.
  • ·       In front of it is the fortification of the fort.
  • ·       There are two large caves on the upper part of the wall, the caves are great to stay.
  • ·       In the opposite side there are seven water tanks.
  • ·       The temple of Ashtabhuja Devi.
  • ·       Two caves that come down from the temple and the lower bastion. Sadhus live in a cave.
  • ·       The other cave is recently a village dispensary. The way down from here goes to Pattavadi.
  • ·       It takes 4 hours to complete the journey.



OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

  1. Hi, the caves which are mentioned here possible to stay n cook food and one need a permission before going and staying overnight if yes please suggest from where we need to get permission because I heard nowadays all caves are locked.
    And can advise me if you may able to provide me any contact detail for hiring private jeep or car from Kasara or igatpuri station
