Nhavigad (न्हावीगड) is also called as Nhavagad or Ratangad. It is located in the Baglan area of Nashik district. There are two main hill ranges in Baglan area the Selbari range and Dholbari range. These two ranges run parallel to each other in east-west direction. Nhavigad is located in Selbari mountain range.All these forts were maintained to keep watch on the Burhanpur-Surat ancient commercial road. The road passes between the two hill ranges. Nhavigad is a small fort, but very difficult to climb.

4100 feet high this fort is Giridurg. This fort of Baglan Dongarange in Nashik district is considered to be of medium to trekers.North-South range of Sahyadri mountain ranges from Baglan in Nashik district. The range of Sahyadri, which starts from the north, is called the Sailbari or the Dolbari Range. There is a demand for Sangebari-Tungi cone, Navegad, on the Selbari range, whereas Mulher, Moragad, Salher, Hargad and Salota are the fortresses on the second dolbar line. These forts are situated on the border of the Dang region, which is a thick forest of Gujarat in western India and Baglan division of Maharashtra.





HISTORY OF THE ATTRACTION


In the records it is written that there was a fierce battle in 1439 between Bahamani king and the King of Gujarat at the base of the Nhavigad and adjoining Tambolya hill. Both sides received huge losses, hence both sides receded from the battleground at night.



GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available to Mangigutigi village Nashik District all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

Wadakhel via: Visit the village of Wadakhel with a 1 hour walk from Mangigutigi village. There is no road to Wadachhel village. There is a need for a quick check. Travel from Wadal to Patalwadi. Patalwadi is situated at the bottom of the fort. Wadakhail to Patalwadi is half an hour. A straight path from Patalwadi has gone on the fort to the fort. Two parts can be divided from this plateau. A walk takes us up from an angle. This is a little harder. Soap rowing has to be done while climbing along the way. When we get along the way, we get to the stairs. The second route connects from the plateau to the left and goes to the stairs. This water requires two to three tanks. The steps leading to the fort have to be climbing upfront. The possibility of collapse due to soil stitching on the stairs is very high. Patalwadi can reach the fort in one and a half hours.


BEST TIME TO VISIT

If you are on a holiday and already planned out Maharashtra tour, it will be a better idea for you to visit the fort during the winter months as you can enjoy place comfortably. In the rainy season, the trek to the fort can get difficult while summer might be too hot. Therefore, November to February is a good time to visit.

PLACES TO VISIT ON THE NHAVIGAD FORT

  • ·       This fort is also called Ratangad.
  • ·       On the way to the fort, there is a water tank and a temple of Goddess.
  • ·       There are three to four tank water on the fort.
  • ·       The topmost crown of the fort is a cone.
  • ·       It requires sedimentation to climb. It takes half an hour to walk around.
  • ·       From the fort, the area can be seen

o   Mangiguny
o   Mulher
o   Moragad
o   Salher
o   Hargad.



 


ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

Accomodation on Nhavigad Fort

Accommodation is not available on the fort. There is no lodging facility on the fort. There is a drinking water tank on the fort.

Food arrangements can be made from the locals.

      Yes there are many cisterns on the fort which have water till the end of the winter season and starting of summer season.
