This fort
is situated at 426 9 feet high in Giridurg. This fort in Mahabaleshwar
Dongarange of Satara district is considered to be of medium to trekers.
At a
height of fifty feet per hour, this Bangda fort is built on a highway of
Mahadev hill ranges between Wai and Raireshwar. While descending from the hill
of Rohidya, on the head of a big mountain on the southwest, the Gandhi
Cap-shaped Kanjalgad is occasionally appearing. Kelangja and Mohangad are the
only nincomposes of Kanelagad.
History
This fort
is said to have been built by Bhoj Rajas of Panhala who flourished in the 12th
century. This fort was won by Adilshah of Bijapur in 1648.Chatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj had captured all the forts in Wai and Bhor region but, he was not able
to win this fort till 1674. He captured this fort as an amazing movement while he
was on a military campaign at Chiplun. He along with soldiers marched to the
Kenjalgad and captured the fort by surprise. The garrison head Gangaji
Vishwasrao kirdat was killed in the ambush and the fort was captured on 24
April 1674. This fort was captured by Aurangzeb in 1701. In the subsequent year
i.e. 1702 this fort was captured by Maratha Army. After the fall of Peshwa this
fort was captured by British under the detachment sent by Gen. Pritzler on 26
March 1818.

1. By Raireshwar: After reading the temple of Raireshwar and descending on the

is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

The
fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show
their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It
comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site.
This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

Accomodation on Kenjalgad fort
Accommodation is not available on the fort. Tents can be stuck
But the wind is huge. The second option is the habitat settlement. Although
there is a tribal population of five to seven houses, there can be ten to
twelve people in the Kangalai temple. You should do your own convenience. To
reach the fort, it takes 3 hours from Raeareswar road to Kanelgarh.
Food Facility on Kenjalgad fort
Food arrangements can be made from the locals.
Water Facility on Kenjalgad fort
Bada water can be used for drinking water. There is a cave next
to a little below the straw steps. There is a small water tank next to this
cave. It is useful for drinking water.
