HISTORY OF THE ATTRACTION
Built in the period between the years
of 1713 CE and 1720 CE by the very first Peshwa of the iconic Maratha Empire,
renowned and revered Balaji Vishwanath, the Visapur Fort stands as a testimony
to the power and prowess of the Maratha rulers and their celebrated kingship.
This massive fort was built as a twin of the famous Lohagad fort, but at a
higher elevation and covering a larger surface area. Both these forts share a
closely liked history together
GETTING THERE
It is located in Pune District,
9 to 10 km from Malavli Railway station out of which 5 km is steep
road. It has an elevation of 1084 meters above sea level. It is built on
the same plateau as Lohagad.
ENTRY FEES
There
is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.
THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND
It
is the best place to visit for some adventure during holidays.
OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS
The
fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show
their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It
comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site.
This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The
fort can be visited throughout the year but during monsoon the roads get
slippery.
