Jivdhan Fort Maharashtra

Jivdhan Fort
Maharashtra

Jivdhan (or Jeevdhan) is a hill fortress situated 1 km near the modern day town of Ghatghar in Junnar Taluka of Pune district in Maharashtra, India. The fort, which rises 1,145 meters (3,757 feet) above sea level, is located in the Sahyadri mountain range. The fort was looted and destroyed by the British upon siege between 1815 -1818[when?] Jivdhan is a part of the 'Famous 5' trekking destinations among trekking enthusiasts. Chavaand, Hadsar, Shivneri, and Naneghat are the other destinations in the Famous 5 trek. This is a high difficulty grade trek due to the misleading jungle tracks and the necessity and knowledge of using climbing equipment. The rock cut steps are wonderfully carved, which lead to the kalyan gate. There are hooks attached on the walls of the rock cut steps near kalyan gate, which makes it easy for regular climber.

This fort is situated in the Giridurg fort. This fort of Naneghat mountain range in Pune district is considered to be very difficult for Trekkers.

In the area of Ghatghar premises, the 'Jivdhan' fort was built to protect the ancient Naneghat's trade route. The Jighead fort is just plain from Naneghat.

History

Every entry point on the forts built by Shivaji have a 'Kalas' and Lord Ganesh carved on it. The nearby Naneghat (Toll collection booth) was used for commercial purpose by traders to help in easy movements of goods. As this was an important pass joining the seas to the mainland, it was heavily guarded from enemies. The Jivdhan fort stood as an important guard fort to protect the interests of various kingdoms. The last emperor of Adilshahi of Ahmednagar was little Murtaza. He was kept as a prisoner by Mughal at Jivdhan fort. In 1635 the father of Chatrapati Shivaji Mararaj, Shahaji maharaj released him from the prison and declared him as a King of Ahmednagar. Jivdhan to Naneghat has an open field of 2–3 km, which gives any clear indication of enemy approach. The British captured this fort in 1818 and destroyed all approaches. This fort was captured by Col. Prother of the East India company and later destroyed.

Nizamshahi was going on during Shiva. But the only fort to testify is Jivandhan. Nizam Shahi was lost on 17 June 1663. ShahajiRajja, the last descendant of Nizamshahi, was taken to the fort at Zamiraja fort near Sanganer, while being imprisoned on the fort at Jivdhana. He declared him a Nizamshah and became a wazir himself. Ghatghara is situated at the foothills of the city. The feature of land here is that of bamboo. All the forests are made of bamboo. Like the Gorakhgadgad, the door of these fortresses is also carved in a pot.

GETTING THERE

Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

1) Plane is taken after reaching Naneghat in Kalyan-Nagar road. There is a hike from the plateau to the right in the forest. This route takes two steps. It takes a pinnacle after crossing this direction. The road to the right of the wall is taken by the road leading to Vandalalingi. The path to the left leads to one trunk. After crossing the vertical skull, the steps are taken again in the woods. After 1818, the British invented the mud and made the route of the western door. There are many apes planning to go upstairs. It is very difficult for the wand to be scary.

 2) The second route to the fort is from the Junnar-Ghatghar to the Rajdaravaja. This route goes straight to the fort from Ghat Ghar. The journey is very simple.
