Gorakhgad fort - 2137 feet high is in Giridurg fort. This
fort of Karjat hill district of Thane district is considered to be of medium to
trekkers.
Gorakhgad is a fort that can be used for Mumbai and Pune.
While Gorakhgad and Machhindragad are not historical heritage, their cones have
always been an attraction for star performers. The surrounding area of
Gorakhgad and Machchindragad is famous because of its dense forest. Gorakhgad's
expanse is also limited. During the reign of Shahaji, this fort was important.
However, there is no mention of any kind of battle. In Shivaji, the fort was
used only to keep an eye on the surrounding region. Previously used to use the
fort as a place to go to Junnar via Naneghat. Despite a limited extension,
there is a sufficient number of adequate water-shelter space available on this
fort. This place of Goraksnath's meditation has been called 'Gorakhgad'.
GETTING THERE

ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available all over from Pune and
Mumbai Mainly
1 To reach Gorakhgad, Mumbaikars should come to
Murbad via Kalyan and Punekars should come to Murbad via Karjat. To reach
'Dhasai' village through 'Mhsa' Phata from Murbad. From here to 'Daheri'
private jeep or ST The service is available. From the village of Daheri two
front corners are seen in front. The small cone is of Machhindragad and the big
cone is of Gorakhgad. The Vitthal temple can be accommodated in the village.
The steps in the forest on the back side of the temple are taken from one to
one and a half hours to the entrance to the dug at Gorakhgad. It takes two
hours to reach the fort by road.

Murbad-Milhe route to Dahari village. From
this village it can be easily reached on the fort by road.

There is also a route from Siddhagad to Gorakhgad. Many
trekkers use this route for trekking from Siddhagad to Gorakhgad. There is a
dense forest on this path. To reach Sadhagad, come to Murbad-Narivli. Narivli
is the base village at the bottom. Siddhagad will be able to stay at Sagigad a
night and reach Siddhag in the morning. A path along the rivulet along the way
enters the forest. After reaching this path a little right, you get to the
waterfall. When we get up on this route we arrive at a small plateau. There is
a small temple of Mahadev on the plateau and there are two samadhi too. Since
moving forward from here, it is a vertical brick and every step has to be
preserved. We come to the dotted door that is in the glass. It takes three
hours to reach this route.
ENTRY FEES
There
is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.
Places to visit on the Gorakhgad fort
- · Front of the courtyard, there are two chapatti trees in front of the valley and in front of the 'Machirindragadh' will make an invincible appearance of the great performances of nature.
- · There are three water tanks around the cave.
- · There are fourteen fourteen water cisterns on the plateau of Gorakhgad but among them, water tanks near the cave are potable.
- · 50 steps are excavated in the back on the left side to climb the pinnacle, This route of 50 steps has to be run very carefully. The fort is very small.
- · There is a temple of Lord Shiva on top And in the front is a Nandi.
- · It is possible to look at all the areas like
o Machchindragad
o Siddhagad
o Nangghat
o Jivanagana, and so on.
OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS
The
fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show
their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It
comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site.
This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.
