This fort is situated on the 1770 foot height of Giridurg. This fort is situated in the Khed hill range of Ratnagiri district .Sahyadri range is spread northwards. Many quartzed ranges from the main line are spread over five and a half miles. Apart from leaving Koladpur, going to Chiplun from the village, the three fortresses of Rasalgad, Sumargad and Mahipatgad absorb their attention. All these forts come to the valley of Jawali. The trek is also famous for Pratapgad, Madhumarkandgad, Rasalgad, Sumargad and Mahipatgad.

 

History

The fort has been developed somewhere in ancient times. The known history of the fort starts from the time of Shivaji when it was first in the territory of More of Javli from whom Shivaji won this fort. Afterwards the fort changed hands from Peshawas to British in 1818.


GETTING THERE


Maharashtra ST (State Transport) buses and trains are available to Rasalgadwadi, Tal. Khed, Dist. Ratnagiri all over from Pune and Mumbai Mainly

Buses escape from Khed to Nimni village. Within an hour of coming down from the village of Nimni, the fort can reach Rasalwadi. The journey is very simple.



ENTRY FEES


There is no entry fee to visit the fort, only ID is needed.

Places to visit on the Rasalgarh fort


  • ·       The two doors in the way to fort.
  • ·       After entering the first entrance, the Maruti Darshan was seen in front of the fort.
  • ·       After entering the fort from second door, there is a huge big gun in the front.
  • ·       Gun is a major feature of these forts. On the fort there are around 16 guns in the fort.
  • ·       There is a temple of Jhalai Devi in the front.
  • ·       In front of the temple there is Deepmala and Tulsi Vrundavan.
  • ·       There is a large pool of water at the side of the temple,this water is suitable for drinking.
  • ·       There is a small temple of Shiva on the rear of the temple.
  • ·       A masonry structure is located in front of this place. It seems to be a grain warehouse.
  • ·       There is another lake near the Citadel.
  • ·       The southwestern part of the fort has a nandi. But there is no shiva found here.

 

OPENING/ CLOSING TIMINGS AND DAYS


The fort is open 24 Hrs to general public for all days of the week. One has to show their ID to enter the fort and for foreign nationals, passport is mandatory. It comes under Maharashtra tourism and department also promotes the heritage site. This fort is a must visit place if you are going on a Maharashtra tour.

The best time to visit Rasalgarh fort is during the rainy season with extra care.



Accomodation on Rasalgarh fort


Accommodation is available in the Zolai temple, on the top of the plateau, that can hold up to around 30 to 40 people.

We have to carry food or prepare there by yourself



Water Facility on Rasalgarh fort



Water is easily available, and more importantly it's drinkable, all year round in the fort because of the huge water tanks that have been strategically placed on the top of the plateau. Water is not something that you will have to worry about when planning for this trek
